Privacy Policy
The short version
- We collect only what the game needs: your email address, your game name, your country and your games.
- In the apps (iPhone, iPad, Mac and Android) you don't have to give us anything: the game signs you in with Game Center or Google Play Games, or as a guest.
- We never sell or share your personal information (your email, your sign-in accounts or your IP address).
- Game data such as replays and statistics may be analyzed by us and by others, but only after names, tags and chat have been removed.
- We don't collect your real name, and we don't use advertising or tracking cookies.
- Besides one welcome email when you create your account, we email you only to sign you in, unless you choose to get game updates or promotions; you can change that any time.
- You can delete your account at any time from My account → Profile.
1. Who we are
Frontline Zero (“the game”) is a real-time strategy game, free to play at frontlinezero.com and coming soon as an app for iPhone, iPad and Mac (on the App Store) and Android (on Google Play), made and run by Hyun Seo, an individual developer publishing under the name 556 Games (“we”, “us”). We are responsible for the personal information described in this policy. You can reach us at support@556games.com.
Until you create an account, only sections 3.1 and 3.6 apply to you.
2. Who can play
You must be at least 13 years old to create an account, or older if the law where you live sets a higher age for agreeing to the use of your data online (up to 16 in some countries in the European Union). We don't knowingly collect personal information from children below that age. If we learn that we have, we delete the account. If you believe a child has created an account, please contact us.
3. What we collect
3.1 When you visit the site or play without an account
- Visit statistics. We use Vercel Web Analytics to count page views and see which pages, countries and devices visitors come from. It doesn't use cookies and doesn't identify you personally.
- Technical logs. Our hosting provider records standard request information, such as your IP address, browser type and the pages requested, to deliver the site and protect it from abuse.
- Play statistics. While the game is online, it tells us a few things about how it's played,
with or without an account: that the game's page was opened, which way into the game was chosen (play offline,
Google, email), that the Multiplayer screen was opened, and for each match against the AI or training chapter,
the map, mode, side and AI level, how it ended and how long it lasted. With them come a random number your
browser makes up each day (so we can count a day's players without knowing who they are, and no one can be
followed from one day to the next), whether you were signed in (yes or no, not who you are), and where your visit
came from (a campaign tag in the link, such as
utm_source, or the site that linked to us). We don't store your account, name, email or IP address with them. We use them only as totals: how many people play, what they play, and which links bring players. The apps send no visit or play statistics. - Data kept on your device. The game saves your settings and your past games in your browser's local storage (in the apps, in the app's own storage on your device). That data stays on your device; we don't receive it, except your key bindings once you're signed in (section 3.2).
3.2 When you create an account
- Email address, used to sign you in (in the apps, only if you add one).
- Google account information, if you sign in with Google: your Google account ID and email address, which we use to sign you in. Google also sends your name and profile picture; we don't use them, show them to anyone or copy them into your player profile.
- Game Center or Google Play Games player ID, in the apps, if you're signed in to Game Center (iPhone, iPad, Mac) or Google Play Games (Android): the ID that service gives our game for you, which we use only to sign you in and to make your account a Supporter (the app comes with it). We don't receive your name or email address from it, and we don't keep your nickname there.
- Sign in with Apple, if you add it in the app on an Apple device: Apple's ID for you and the email address Apple shares, which can be a private relay address that Apple forwards to you.
- Guest accounts. In the apps, if neither Game Center nor Google Play Games is available, the game makes a guest account with no email address or other sign-in. It is only on that device until you add a way to sign in (My account → Profile).
- Game name and tag (for example Ranger#4821), which you choose (in the apps, the game suggests one, and you can change it) and which other players can see, and a record of your previous game names.
- Country, which you choose. We use it to pick a default game server region. It is shown on your profile only if you turn that on.
- Your key bindings, if you change the game's keys (Options → Controls) while signed in, and when you last changed them, so they follow you to your other computers. Nobody else sees them.
- Your agreement to these terms and this policy, your age confirmation, and when you gave them.
We don't ask for your real name, address, phone number or date of birth.
3.3 If you buy something
Supporter is sold by Stripe, our reseller and the Merchant of Record, through Link, its checkout (as was the monthly plan, which is no longer sold). You pay Stripe: your card or payment details go to Stripe and never reach us. Stripe tells us what we need to give you what you bought: your Stripe customer ID, what you bought, its status (and, for a monthly plan bought earlier, its renewal date), the amount and currency, and your receipts. Stripe and Link handle your payment under their own privacy policy.
3.4 When you play online
- Games: the map, settings, players, results and the full record of every order given during the match, which is how a game is replayed.
- Chat sent in lobbies and in games, kept with the game it was sent in. Words on our list of swearing and slurs are hidden from other players; a game's record keeps what was typed, so we can act on reports.
- Reports: if you report a player, what you wrote, who and where, and the chat lines of theirs that your game showed you, so we can look into it.
- Statistics: games played, wins, losses, ties, games left early, and the dates you joined and last played.
- Friends and blocks: your friends list, friend requests and the players you've blocked.
- Connection information: your IP address, your connection quality (ping) and online status, used to connect you to games, show your status to friends and prevent abuse.
3.5 When you contact us
Your email address and whatever you choose to tell us.
3.6 Cookies and local storage
We don't use advertising or tracking cookies. The game uses your browser's local storage for your settings, your saved games, once you sign in, to keep you signed in, and for the play statistics in section 3.1: the random number for the day (replaced every day) and where your visit came from (kept 30 days).
The About page shows the trailer from YouTube. Until you press play it is only a picture (from YouTube's image server); when you do, YouTube's player loads from youtube-nocookie.com and YouTube's own privacy policy applies to it.
3.7 When you report a bug
What you write, and what the game attaches to it: a picture of the battlefield (you can leave it out), the game version, your browser and screen size, the match you were in and the last errors the game ran into. The report is stored with your account and emailed to us. If you tick “You can email me back”, we may reply to your email address about it.
4. How we use it
| Purpose | Information used | Legal basis (EU/UK) |
|---|---|---|
| Sign you in and run your account | Email, Google account ID, Apple ID, Game Center or Google Play Games player ID, game name, tag | Providing the service you asked for |
| Give you what you bought: the Supporter badge, receipts and refunds (and for a monthly plan bought earlier, its renewals and cancelling) | What you bought, status, amounts and Stripe customer ID (from Stripe) | Providing what you bought; keeping records the law requires |
| Match you with other players and run online games | Game name, tag, country, IP address, ping, game data | Providing the service |
| Show your profile, statistics, archive and replays | Game name, tag, game data, statistics | Providing the service |
| Friends, invites, online status and blocking | Game name, tag, friends and blocks, online status | Providing the service |
| Keep play fair and safe: detect cheating, filter chat, enforce chat limits, act on reports and rule-breaking | Game data, chat, reports, IP address, previous game names | Our legitimate interest in a fair, safe game |
| Count how many people play and what they play, and see which links bring players | Play statistics (section 3.1), which don't identify you | Our legitimate interest in understanding how the game is used |
| Improve the game and its balance; research on how the game is played | Game data and statistics, de-identified as described in section 5 | Our legitimate interest in improving the game |
| Send sign-in codes, one welcome email when you create your account, and essential account notices | Email, game name | Providing the service |
| Fix the bugs you report | Your bug report (section 3.7), and your email if you let us reply | Our legitimate interest in fixing the game |
| Send game update emails (new maps, units, seasons) and promotional emails, only if you chose to receive them | Email, game name, your email choices | Your consent |
| Comply with the law and respond to valid legal requests | As required | Legal obligation |
Sign-in emails are always sent, because they are how you get into your account. When you create an account we also send one welcome email, which says what's free and how Supporters keep the servers running. Game update emails and promotional emails are sent only if you chose them; both are off unless you turn them on, when you create your account or later in My account → Profile, and every such email has a link to unsubscribe. Friend requests and invites stay in the game; we don't email them. We don't use your information for advertising or to build advertising profiles. We don't make automated decisions about you that have legal or similarly significant effects.
5. Sharing
We never sell your personal information
We don't sell, rent or trade your personal information, including your email address, your sign-in accounts and your IP address, and we don't share it for advertising.
Game data for analysis
Game data, meaning replays, match records and statistics, may be analyzed by us and shared with others, such as researchers, partners or analytics services, to study and improve the game. Before any game data leaves our systems, we replace game names and tags with random identifiers and remove chat. We don't attempt to re-identify players from it and require anyone we share it with not to either.
Other players
Other players can see your game name, tag, online status, statistics and profile, your country if you choose to show it, the chat you send, and the replays of games you played in.
Service providers
We use these companies to run the game. They process information only on our behalf and under their own security and privacy commitments:
- Vercel: hosts the website and the game, and provides the visit statistics.
- Supabase: stores accounts, profiles, statistics and games, and handles sign-in.
- Cloudflare: runs the servers that connect players during online games, and may deliver the game's images and sounds.
- Resend: delivers sign-in emails and the welcome email, and sends bug reports to us.
- Stripe (and Link, its checkout): sells Supporter (and sold the monthly plan) as Merchant of Record, taking payments, tax and refunds. For the payment itself Stripe acts on its own account, under its own privacy policy.
- Google: provides Sign in with Google and Google Play Games, if you use them, and sells the Android app on Google Play.
- Apple: provides Game Center and Sign in with Apple in the app on iPhone, iPad and Mac, if you use them, and sells the app on the App Store.
When you buy the app, Apple or Google handles the payment under its own privacy policy; we receive no payment details.
Legal reasons
We may disclose information if the law requires it, to respond to valid legal process, or to protect the safety, rights or property of players, the public or us.
If the game changes hands
If Frontline Zero is transferred to someone else, your information may be transferred with it. The new owner must keep honoring this policy, including never selling your personal information, or tell you first and let you delete your account.
6. Information from Google
Frontline Zero's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We use your Google account ID and email address, and your Google Play Games player ID, only to sign you in and identify your account, and we don't transfer them to anyone except the service providers above that run sign-in and accounts.
7. How long we keep it
- Account information is kept while your account exists.
- Games, chat and statistics are kept while the game runs, as part of the history and replays that every player in a match can see.
- IP addresses in our logs are kept for up to 90 days, unless we need them longer to investigate abuse.
- Play statistics (section 3.1) are deleted after 25 months.
- Reports about players, and bug reports, are kept for 180 days.
- When you delete your account, we delete your email address, sign-in accounts (Google, Apple, Game Center, Google Play Games), profile, friends and blocks within 30 days. Games you played in stay in other players' archives, with you shown as “Deleted player”. Backups are overwritten on a rolling basis.
- Records of purchases (what you bought, amounts and dates) are deleted with your account. Stripe, as the seller, keeps its own records of the payments for as long as tax law requires. Deleting your account also stops a monthly plan, so you aren't charged again.
8. Your choices and rights
- Delete your account at any time in My account → Profile, in the apps or on the website: every kind of account, guest accounts included. If you can't (for example, you no longer have the app), email support@556games.com with your game name and tag (for example Ranger#4821); we'll delete it within 30 days, once we've checked that it's yours. Section 7 says what is deleted.
- Change your game name once a season, and choose whether your country is shown.
- Block players to stop their chat, invites and friend requests, and report them (click their name) if they break the rules.
- Turn off play statistics: if your browser sends Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track, the game sends none.
Depending on where you live (for example in the European Union, the United Kingdom, Ukraine or some US states), you may also have the right to access, correct, delete or receive a copy of your personal information, to object to or restrict how we use it, and to withdraw any consent you have given. To use these rights, email support@556games.com from the address on your account. We'll answer within 30 days. We won't treat you differently for using your rights.
If you are in the EU or UK and are unhappy with how we handle your information, you can complain to your local data protection authority.
9. International transfers
We and our service providers may store and process information in the United States and other countries, which may have different data protection laws from yours. When information from the EU or UK is transferred, we rely on our providers' legal safeguards for such transfers, such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.
10. Security
We protect your information with encrypted connections, access controls on the database, and sign-in without passwords that could be stolen. No system is perfectly secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security. If a breach affects your personal information, we'll tell you as the law requires.
11. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If a change is significant, we'll tell you in the game or by email before it takes effect.
